reconstruction surgery

I had reconstruction surgery on my knee over 2 years ago. They took my hamstring for my new acl I had part of my lateral meniscus removed and 8 holes for micro fractures. I fell off a semi-truck at work. I now have chronic pain. There is not a day that goes by I have no pain or swelling some days are worse than others. I was told that my pain from surgery will be no longer than 6 months and now it is 2 and a half years. Is this normal after this kind of surgery? Did I do something wrong in my healing and rehab?

Thank you so much..The pain is right at the sites you described, the front of my knee and the lateral..Would I need another surgery to correct the problem? I am a nursing student and am afraid to be seen because I am afraid I will need another surgery. I wanted to wait 7 more months until I was finished.

Constant pain like you are describing is never normal. Most likely this is a the result of a incomplete or non response to the microfracture of the femoral condyle.  I would recommend at least an exam and Xray, and possibly an MRI. Another possibility is further tearing of the meniscus, an MRI will show this if it is  present.  The good news is that you are not describing any buckling or giving way, so your ACL graft is likely ok
