I had a bimalleolar ankle break in September 2005, which was fixed with ORIF. The past few days, I have had burning pain on the top of my foot near my smallest toes, cramping in my arch, and tenderness at the lower end of the tibia and just below it. What could be causing this? How long should I put up with it before seeing my doctor? Thanks!
Yes it does, thank you so much for your knowledge. Will get my doc to schedule a CT scan and hope for the best.
The foot doctor was talking about an "ossatron" which is a type of shock wave treatment that breaks up gallstones; also used on plantar fasciitis. FDA still considers it "experimental", so most insurances won't cover it. As for as the arthritis in the ankle, regular xrays would show it, and an CT scan would be the best thing. MRI's highlight soft tissue, ie, tendons, ligaments, fluid-filled areas, etc. The CT scan is the best to show boney abnormalities. Hope this helps/
I wore a walking cast for 6 weeks. They talked about surgery, but decided it wasn't necessary.I did have an MRI on the achilles tendon that showed a partial tear. Another 6 weeks in walking boot. But it has never healed right. My foot dr wanted to do a procedure with a lazer, same type that breaks up gallstones, but my insurance company wouldn't authorize it. He talked about going in a removing the caldification, but that would be another 6 weeks in a boot. Since I recently had a cervical fusion/disc removal, I have no more time off available. My left hip is also acting up, I'm sure I'm walking really funny. Not funny ha-ha. Would another MRI show arthritis in ankle? Thanks for reply
Did you have a surgery on your calcaneus? (ORIF, plates, screws) or did they close reduce it? Calcaneal injuries almost always lead to post-traumatic arthritis. As for the achilles injury, you may have a partial rupture, or just a lot of scar tissue/calcification in there. You may be able to get scoped. The pain at top of foot may be compensatory, since your gait is probably altered from the pain.
