Ankle sprain-numbness

About 3 weeks ago I missed about four steps and when I hit there was a loud pop. I thought I broke my ankle, but after a little while I realized I could walk on it with pain. The pain is not very bad now but the ankle still swells when I use it and wants to roll.  Tried some slow pace walking today on the treadmill and the outside of my ankle /bottom heel area of my foot started  tingling. Wondering if this is normal for a sprain. I tried looking for enough but could not find munch on outside of the ankle tingling all was about the inside of the ankle.

Thanks for the info.  I did go see an ortho and I have been doing physical therapy. The ankle still hurts and tends to swell a lot by the end of the day.  The therapist said he thought I tore the ligaments. It wants to roll if I step wrong.  I am fine with doing physical therapy, but thinking about asking for an MRI, but not certain if it would useful.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there!

Well, without a clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. Possibilities that may need to be considered include fractures, dislocations, injuries to ligaments/ tendons etc. I would suggest getting this evaluated by an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. Meanwhile I would suggest resting the foot and avoiding weight bearing on the leg. A crepe bandage may be helpful in movement restriction and stabilization. Ice-packs and tylenol/ OTC NSAIDS may be helpful for relief as well. Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
