Broken ankle

Has anyone broken their Tibia and fibia? I broke mine two years ago and am still having problems. I have a plate and eleven screws. I am thinking of having them taken out in the hopes that it will releive some of the discomfort. Any information from someone who has done this would be great.

Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your medical problems.  If the fracture occurred two years ago, then yes, the prosthesis used to hold the fracture ends could be causing the pain. However, persisting pain can also be due to non–union of fracture, ligament tear, tendonitis, a recent injury, repetitive strain on the ankle.
If conservative treatments like rest, application of ice, raising the leg, wearing comfortable shoes, and taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory for a few days do not help take care of the pain, then you will need X-rays and MRI to look into the cause.
If there is considerable improvement in pain, then you can try exercises of knee and ankle joints to strengthen the muscles and ligaments of these joints.

You don't mention what rehab was done?
It sounds like the bones were fixed, and maybe not the surrounding soft tissues.
You need to strengthen the joints and muscles.
