Well, I've been in physical therapy and to see the orthopedist. So far, I was diagnosed with hip bursitis of the greater trochanter with lumber radiculapathy. I go in for an MRI next week as the PT is not resolving the pain, and they suspect a slipped disc has caused all of this. We'll see!
Please keep us updated on how your appointment goes. I'm looking for answers too. I started to have chronic low back pain (sharp) around 21 years old. I'm 28 now, and my left hip has been hurting for about two years. The pain extends into the buttocks, down the leg, and into my ankle. I have flare-ups where I will do something, like turn or stretch the wrong way, and I'll feel that 'pop' I'm reading about in other people. My muscles will 'seize up' and it takes me a couple of weeks to recover. The first few days I usually cannot get into a sitting up standing up position without help. It's like my muscles have failed. I'll have a sharp pain in my left him that is almost unbearable with pain medicine.
I have been told everything by doctors from 'it's stress' to sacroiliac dysfunction to 'it's not sacroiliac dysfunction' because nothing is showing up on x-rays. I've never had an mri. I know something is wrong, but I cannot find a doctor who wants to really figure out what is wrong. I don't want to be given pain meds to cover it up. This is going on seven years. I'm ready to start pursuing this more intensely, and finding the right doctor. If anyone is in NC and knows someone who can help, please pm me.
When you first started to feel this pain, was it a gradual onset? I have been experiencing hip pain for a couple of months now and it felt like it was my joint going out of the socket and back in like you said. However, it only happens if I do certain things. If I am going to stand up and lean to far to the left, if I bend down from a standing position and reach to the left I get this pain. It usually hurts for several hours and sometimes into the next day. I can't lay or stand in any position that makes it more comfortable except laying on my right side. Even then, the pain is still there, just not as bad. I can go days without any incident and then it will just "happen" again if I do those certain things. My Dr. said it was Trochanteric Bursitis. He also said I probably have had it for a very long time and it more than likely is why I have had lower back pain for so many years. The lower back pain is a pre-cursor to the hip hurting and it has something to do with the way people walk. He said if people walk with their feet apart instead of one in front of the other, this can be the result however, my husband says I don't walk like that. So I'm not sure I believe my Dr. on this one. I go in for X-Rays next week and if he sees anything he'll call. So if you or anyone else can identify with this, please respond. I'm getting to my wits end here! Thanks!
Oh...meant to ask....what have you done for yours? Surgery??
Hi...just read your post. I'm thinking possible tear as well. My MRI was done without contrast and I doubt Workman's Comp will pay for another. I have been back at work for 3 weeks now...mainly out of guilt. I've been managing ok but I feel physically limited. My left hip/leg doesn't feel the same as my right. It is still catching/popping some but not as bad. I can put weight on it but at any given time it will start hurting to the point I have to limp then a little later it will be fine. The past few days have been the roughest. Very nervous about apt tommorrow. I want answers and relief....badly.
Hi
I've just joined this list today, so I may not be doing things quite right, but here goes.
I read your post with interest and then posted one of my own. We have similar stories. I assume you're a teacher. I am a teacher. Just an idea for you...don't rule out what I have - labral tear.
I am no doctor, but the first MRI I had did not have a labral tear report, yet the second did. Did your MRI come with contrast dye in the hip joint or not? I've read that these tears don't show up well with plain MRIs. I hope you keep posting cause I'm interested in your outcome. Good luck.
