Femor Titanium Rod

My husband was in a serious accident about 11 years ago and had a titanium rod put in his right leg. He still has glass coming out of him everywhere. However, recently he has noticed the rod they put in his leg is pushing against his skin. It seems to sore. This is a quick onset of symptoms. Of course, I would like him to go see a doctor. He has been researching rod removal all day. Do you think this is going to be necessary? Is this a normal course of events for rod insertion? I thnank you in advance for any advice or suggestions.

Kat,

I just had my rod removed from my left tibia after two years of my body rejecting it and a total of four surgeries. Just had it removed on August 10th and on day one I was able to walk but just a little. I am so glad it's gone - no more hardware!! I hope this gives you and your husband encouragement to get his removed.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
If the rod is displaced and causing problems then rod removal is an option.
But before anything he has to go for diagnosis by an X-ray/MRI to find out about the present position of the rod and correlating clinically with the orthopaedician and taking the best course of action. Take care!
