Has anyone ever had long term results from a meniscus tear?

Aub
I have had knee pain for for several months after walking down some stairs and missing the last step.  My right knee hurts as a result from slamming my leg unto the concrete.  Many places paint a yellow stripe on the last step to warn people.  There was no yellow line painted and of course at night you the last step blends into the pavement below.  I have had a couple of cortisone shots which help but I am afraid I tore a meniscus.  I am 65 and awaiting the results of the MRI.
