Is my broken collarbone healing too slowly?

I am a 74 year old male that broke my collarbone two months ago in a fall.  Because of minimum divergence in the break, the doctors did nothing, as far as braces go, other than offering a sling as an option, if I wanted it.  I had difficulty understanding how a broken bone would heal if it were allowed to move.  I had pain for quite awhile, but my range of motion increased every day.  Seemed to be getting much better, but at about five weeks from fall, I lifted a bag of trash and felt a pop, or click.  Later I could feel slight movement in the break area.  Saw the doctor a week later, and he said that was normal, and it would take longer to heal.  Seemed like it was healing well again, when I filled a pan with water, and evidently popped it again, about eight weeks after the fall.  Wondering if this is normal for someone my age, and if eventually the callus progresses enough to envelop the break.  Should there be anything I should be doing differently, other than not lifting anything over five pounds with that arm?
