Joint Pain

Hello, I'm 14 years old and i have had pain in my knees, hips, and now on the side of my right shin. I started having pain in my left knee in December of '08. Then my right knee started hurting. Then both of my hips. MY hips are the ones that hurt the most now, not so much my knees anymore. I've been in ballet for 9 yrs also. I've had x-rays (sunrise, and lateral?), blood tests for arthritis but nothing came up. My dance teacher's husband is a physical therapist and he has taken a look at my knees and hips but found nothing. I have tried ibuprofen and anti-inflammatory pain killers but it did not work. I've also been prescribed medication to try to control the pain like naproxen and relafin. I am now taking neurontin. i just started it yesterday so i am not completely sure if it is working well. There is nothing that really causes the pain. It happens at random intervals. I was taken off dancing for 8 weeks but i still had the pain nontheless. I really want to figure out what the heck is wrong with me because i am tired of having pain that sometimes cripples me. Please help!

Hi,

I am a physical therapist.  I would also recommend seeing a rheumatologist to help obtain an accurate diagnosis.

In the mean time I would definitely avoid any activities that aggravate your pain, including dancing.

Hope this helps

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

Go in a step wise way for a proper diagnosis and then cure.

I would suggest you to follow up with a rheumatologist before ruling out all cause of arthritis.

A proper lower lumbar spinal scans and evaluation by an orthopedician is a necessity in your case.

If this does not help follow up with a neurologist.

Take care!
