Hello!
I would suggest you to go for scans on the present date to diagnose the reasons as ligaments or cartilage.
Depending on the diagnosis I would suggest you complete immobilization. The entire knee joint should be kept in a splint or an immobilizer. This will keep the knee from bending and help the tissues to start healing.
A knee dislocation almost always has severe tears of the ligaments and sometimes has breaks in the bones of the knee. If required after the swelling subsides your orthopedician will go for endoscopy surgical repair.
Take care!
Hello Dr Vinod,
I am sorry that i did not specify the fact that the knee automatically goes back into place each and every time. The knee has never stayed out of place. I have gone to a orthopedic specialist after the second time it came out of place. I was told it was a cartilage injury and that it would heal it's self. As you have read, this is not the case.
Hello!
A knee dislocation occurs when the bones that form your knee are out of place. This can occur after major trauma, falls, car crashes and other high speed injuries.
I would suggest you to get scans done like X-rays and MRI and follow up with an orthopedician for any soft tissue repair if required.
Placing ice packs on the injured area may help for some pain control and to decrease some of the swelling. But the most important treatment is to have an orthopedician assess the injury and relocate or put the knee back in place.
Take care!
