Damaged Plexus Brachialis

Hello.
My father suffered broken "Scapular Acromion" and "Humeral Head" I believe.
They have performed a surgery but seems like they have cut during the surgery something called "Plexus Brachialis" which is going down the arm.
Since then he were unable to move his hand or feel anything, but i've pushed him a bit now and then, and recently he is starting to move the hand, which is looking a bit random.
I wonder if this is a sign of a recover or it is a false no-hope alarm?
