I am a 50 yr old male, 6 feet tall with a BMI of 40 (overweight by 90 lbs). Recently I have had pain (scale 1-10, 8 to 9) when I put my left leg over right to put on socks. The pain starts in the upper part of my hip and radiates down leg. Left foot at times gets numb. I went to Orthopod and he xrayed hip and pelvis. Said hip and pelvis looks fine. He palpated my hip and buttock. I felt as if I were going through roof. He said it is sciatica and IT band and possible trochanter bursitis. He ordered 8 wks of Phys Therapy, twice a week. The physical therapist had me raise both feet, heals down on table, and wanted me to try and hold him back from pushing them to the table. Right foot strong, left foot pushed to table effortlessly. Same done with toes. They have done stem, ultra sound, ice and I have done push ups, and he has force my left leg over right to stretch para formis(?). My pain is worse today (BEEN 10 days) I take Relafen, Hydro codone for pain (do not like to take due to constipation) I am a drug rep with large territory and driving only makes worse. When sitting and trying to cross left leg over right to put on sock, it brings such pain that I tear up and it takes several attempts to get sock on. Ice seems to help. I am frustrated and want to know what is going on. I am fairly active and this has put a damper on my lifestyle and with my wife, intimately. I guess I need an MRI. PT seems to think with stretching and stem/ice/ ultra sound/exercise, this can be fixed. When I had kidney stone, pain was bad but did not affect my gait when I walked or ankle/calf pain/stress. What do you think this could be and what should I do next?
