Lump in Thigh, Soreness in Knee

Posting this here because I don't know where else to.  I hurt my leg running in softball a few months back, and about a month ago I noticed a lump in my thigh (quad) in the area that I hurt.  I've tried to massage it out, but it's still there.  Last week I noticed that if I prop the ankle of that leg up on my opposite knee (almost like cross-legged) when I'm seated in a chair, I feel soreness in my knee that can kind of reverberate up into my hip area.  If I sit like that for any length of time my foot can start to go numb and my knee will be so tender I'll have to pick it up and set my foot back down on the ground with my hands.

It's strange because it's not a constant pain and not unmanageable.  I can walk fine, even run. But I'm mostly concerned about this knot in my thigh and why it doesn't seem to be going away.  I know that sometimes with an injury the muscle can roll itself into a ball, but I would think I would have had to hurt myself worse than I did for that to be the case.

Also, since it may be relevant, I was wearing a heal lift in the shoe on that foot for many months on the recommendation of my chiropractor but have since opted for arch supports in both shoes.  At times, it did seem like the lift was making my leg sore, but I thought that may be a normal adjustment.  Now I'm wondering if it has something to do with this problem.

If you can't wager a guess as to what's going on, I'd appreciate it if someone could at least point me in the right direction as to what type of doctor to see about this.

Hello!
Bruise is an inflammation externally, and hematoma can occur within muscles by some fibres splitting and blood to pool and finally in formation of a hematoma which normally absorbs by itself. It is normally self limiting.
It may take couple of weeks sometimes.
You have to confirm this near an Orthopedician that it is a hematoma. It can also be a lump but that would not be connected with your injury and for this go for a consultation.
Take care!

But I never experienced any bruising and the size of this knot is quite substantial.  If it is still a hematoma, how do I treat it?

Dear joejoe18,

Hello!,

The lump or knot you are mentioning is because of the blood pooling and it called haematoma. Muscles have good blood supply and even with small injuries and blows sometimes you develop a haematoma.
You would need to visit an Orthopedician for X-ray of the knee joint. If required go for an MRI and clinical examination for proper diagnosis.
Take care!
