Non Union of Fibula

Hi,

I am due to go into hospital on 11/11/10 to have a operation, Removal of broken metal work, revision internal fixation with bone graft. Recent xrays showed hi have a bit of bone formation but as i did not feel any security with the ankle i have opted to go for the operation.

My Question is, Will they need to rebrake the ankle and start all over again or will they simply put the bone graft around the break and replate, is this something that can indeed be done? In either case what is the timings generally of being in plaster or soft boot?

Thanks for youe help.

regards

Hi Steve! I had a bone graft  done on my fibula about 18 months ago. They just put the graft on my fibula, plated & that was about it.No cast of any kind.My fibula sight did bleed quite alot so I did end up with a few tensor bandages wrapped around but that was it.They insisted that I stay over night for pain control but quite honestly it was no big deal.Uncomfortable yes,but no unbearable pain.Hope this works out for you.TakeCare!
