Osteopanic Advice Needed

I am  healthy 27 year old female who has suffered several fractures recently.  My doctor sent me for a dexy bone scan which has revealed I have Osteopenia.  I have a well balanced diet with lots of calcium intake.  I do not smoke.  I am waiting to see a specialist but in the meantime can you give me any advice and information as to what treatment they will treat me with.  Your advice is much appreciated. Treatment Approach

The main goal of treatment is prevention of fractures, particularly hip, vertebral and radial fractures. Treatment approach is population-specific, but calcium and vitamin D supplementation is pertinent to all people at risk of and with osteoporosis.

Diet and lifestyle

Diet supplementation with calcium and vitamin D (as ergocalciferol) is intended to prevent osteoporosis and reduce the incidence of fracture.Although the combination of calcium plus vitamin D has only been shown to reduce fracture in a nursing home population, it is recommended that all people with osteoporosis initially be advised to take these dietary supplements. The benefits of additional calcium and vitamin D are highlighted with caregivers for people with osteoporosis residing in nursing facilities. Treatment is generally given twice daily with meals to optimize absorption.

Falls can be prevented by interventions targeted at individuals' risk factors, such as balance and strength training, or removal of environmental hazards such as loose rugs or other things over which one could stumble. For those who are able, regular exercise might be beneficial in reducing the incidence of fracture and is recommended. Weight-bearing exercise is recommended to maintain bone strength, but exercises that enhance balance, such as tai chi, may help to prevent falls.
