Pain in left Knee, MRI stated Loculated Effusion or Ganglion.

I can't bend without pain in my left knee and MRI stated that I had loculated fluid collection posterior and superior in the knee measuring approximately 4.2cm in medial-to-lateral dimension and 2.0cm in craniocauded dimension.. All non aggressive with multiple thin septations but no extension into the bone or muscles possibly representing a large soft tissue GANGLION or LOCULATED EFFUSION. There is also a tiny medial synovial plica and slight synovitis in the medial aspect of the patellofemoral compartment without loose body. My question is what would be some treatments as the pain is bad when I bend that knee. I tried PT to no avail. Please help and advise.

Thanks for the info. It is ganglion as I did physiotherapy from my doctors orders to no avail. One doctor I went to said to wait 9 months to see if it goes away as he was hesitate on performing surgery as the cyst is attached to my tendon. It has been 9 months and still pain so now I am going to a surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC.

Hi!
If it is a ganglion, thensurgery will help reduce the pain. If it is just fluid collection then you can try ice pack, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory such as Aleve or Mobic followed by physiotherapy. Also, physiotherapy has to be done under expert guidance. Please consult your doctor.  Take care!
