Re-thinking my knee surgery - is it necessary?

I'm 22 years old and had a knee injury 4 years ago. Had an MRI done that shows a tear in my knee. I saw an orthopedic surgeon who has scheduled surgery to sculpt out the scar tissue in my knee.

He wasn't really helpful in answering my questions. I want to know:

Is it really necessary? My knee locks when i walk but other than that, its not too much of a problem.

Will it leave a big scar on my knee?

What if I wait and do it in 10 - 15 years when there's better technology?

If anyone can please help answer these questions, thank you

Hi there!

- It may not be necessary but may prove to be helpful in relieving your symptoms.
- Unlikely; the surgery is done through small incisions.
- I see no point in waiting and living with symptoms 10-15 years of your life. This isn’t a major surgery that one may expect a breakthrough technology.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
