Serious Leg Problems

My story started a little over ten years ago.  I was coming down the attic carrying a basket, and I missed a couple of steps and fell, fracturing both my legs.  The right leg was a simple break, and in the left leg the ankle dislocated.  I ended up having surgery, resulting in 2 metal rods + 9 screws.  I was told I could have arthritis, and that I would lose about 30% of my movement.  Going forward to last year, I was crossing the street while walking my dog when I was hit by a car.  I ended up having a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula in the right leg, resulting in 2 metal rods + 13 screws, as well as developing planar fasciitis.  In addition to all of this, I have also developed arthritis in my left leg.  Both of my doctors agree that I only have 2 solutions, either an ankle transplant (not recommended), or a fusion.  I’m only 53years old, and was very active.  Due to all of this, I am having a lot of difficulty, and am becoming very depressed.  Please give me your opinion if anyone can help me.

Was an allograft transplant discussed or just an artificial transplant?  I have a very similar medical situation and the artificial transplant was ruled out because of my age.  I am 20 and my orthopedist doesn't recommend the artificial transplants in anyone under 50.  The allograft was his recommendation but it is still a very new procedure for ankles and he says there are only a couple of surgeons who do it.  I know about the depression and hopelessness.  I might not be able to help but I can certainly sympathize.

Hi,
for your age you should think of getting it corrected surgically as movement may become problem if you ignore further. consult our orthopedician who can decide about it.
