Severe Nerve Pain After Open Reduction Internal Fixation of the Clavicle

I recently had surgery to repair a fractured clavicle.  I received a plate and 8 vertical screws.  I have had serious nerve pain since the surgery, with numbness and burning on the skin near the incision, and sharp shooting pains in the shoulder that sometimes run down my arm into my elbow and wrist and sometimes up the side of my neck.  The symptoms are least pronounced in the morning after I wake up, but as the day goes on, they intensify.  It's nearly impossible for me to concentrate on my work.  I would be interested in hearing from anyone who experienced similar issues but then had the problem resolve itself after some period of time.

The plate and 14 screws provided my non union clav with strength and stability, but the pain is as bad or worse than before surgery, That's one year from surgery.   Mislocated shooting tingling nerve pain on 8 inches of skin, and deep tissue pain, probably from the screws sticking though the bone, which remarkably is the normal way its done. In 50 years this will be considered barbaric.  But it's strong.

Your body/nerves are reliving the surgery. Try 200mg of Naperson OTC.
As soon as your doctor let you get the plate and screws removed you’ll feel like a new person.

They don't ever remove it.
