Should I be doing this with a fractured pubis?

I'm 19 and fractured my pubis bone on the left side of my pelvis nearly 2 1/2 weeks ago falling off a horse.  I was kept in hospital for 5 days but didn't need any surgery.  I've been able to walk with one crutch since a week after my accident, and today discovered I can take a few steps without any crutches with no pain or discomfort.  Should I avoid doing this or should I do it occasionally to keep the area mobile?

Hi,
I fell from a horse two weeks ago.I was in a lot of pain but got pack on. Even an active walk was painful so i dismounted. I attended hospital the next day and they didnt notcie the fracture at first.
I fratcured my pubis bone on the right side, im 21.
Our injuries sound quiet similar. So maybe this wil help.
I havent stayed in hosipital and only got crutches 4days after I suffered the fracture. I think im healing well also.
Even though i stupidly got on a treadmill to try and open up the muscles and allow me to ge back in the saddle quicker.  (before i knew i had a fracture).
However the docs advised me not to worry and just not to put to much weight on my sore side and use the crutches where possible.
They also advised that exercise can help in small doses.
I have been walking with one crutch when I can and to the bathroom without them if I can. (maybe 10 paces) alothought it does cause a little pain.
I am going for a check up tomorow. If I didnt damage it further or slow my recovery I doubt you have. I will let you know tomorrow.

Hi,
You should be taking it as much as easy as possible. You can consult a physiotherapist for further guidance regarding weight bearing and any exercise which will help you in strengthening your pelvic muscle to support your pelvis.
Keep me posted if you have any queries.
Bye.

Thanks!!  I'm taking it very slowly.  Just little things like walking 5-10 steps, taking a break and walking back.  I don't want to do anything that could set me back when I seem to be recovering so well.

Hi,
Pelvis dislocation or fracture of any part of pelvis is basically classified initially whether it will require a surgery or not. If the fracture is severe enough, with joint instability, then an external fixator is used to keep joint in place.
In your case it would be reducible and the treatment option is to give rest and see for healing.
There is no harm for walking for a while without crutches as long as you do not harm your fracture site.
If you feel any pain in doing so, then please do not over exert yourself.
You can take rest for some more days and get back to your normal life without crutches as feasible.
Keep me posted.
Bye.
