Tuberculosis of Spine

Hi,
I am 22 yrs old and was suffering from a severe back ache from the past couple of months which ultimately lead me to go for an MRI.
The MRI report states as follows:
"MRI findings are suggestve of collapse and partial destruction of D3 vertebra with signal alteration of D2, d3 &d4 vertebra with pre/bilateral paravertebral collection at D2 to D4 level with anterior epidural collection at D3 to D4 level resulting in moderate to marked extradural compressoion with other findings as described. ? Caries. Please correlate clinically and with the other investigations."
And also there is a sewelling which is causing the pain.

What does the MRI actually state?
I have been advised to start taking medicines for TB... is it actually Tuberculosis of Spine?

Hi, as your case may be complicated with spinal compression due to inflammation, so the expert might have prescribed omnacortil. The other doctor is also right in saying that it is not used in Tb spine cases but I think you should go with the expert's opinion as it may benefit you. Now that you already have TB spine (according to expert) this drug will not harm further. Regards

Thanks a lot doctor for your advise... but i have one more question..

I went for a second opinion and i have been advised that i should not take one of the medicines that was mentioned by the first doctor... it is Omnacortil...which was supposed to be taken in decreasing dosages i.e starting from 30mg in the first week and decreasing 10 mg week wise...but the second doctor is saying that this medicine is not  to be taken with other medicines which are r-Cinex, PZA, mycobutol, benedon and PAN..

I am very confused that which prescription should i follow... please advise appropriately..

Thanks in advance.

Hi, the caries and collapse might be due to TB spine or Pott's disease, which is also known as Pott’s caries, David's disease, and Pott's curvature, is a medical condition of the spine. Individuals suffering from Pott's disease typically experience back pain, night sweats, fever, weight loss, and anorexia. They may also develop a spinal mass, which results in tingling, numbness, or a general feeling of weakness in the leg muscles. It depends upon the prevalence of TB in your community. Definite diagnosis requires lab investigations like TLC: Leucocytosis, ESR: raised during acute stage, Tuberculin skin test etc. Regards
