Weight Training With Ankle Sprain

I Sprained My Ankle Over the Weekend. While it Is Painfull to walk and tender most of the time, i am moblie.  My question is: Can weight training minus any workouts to the ankle in question hinder or slow the healing process down? While high impact cardio clearly seems out of the question at the moment, Would a core workout and/or an  upper body weight lifting routine be appropriate at this time?
