Hello,
You should go for lifestyle changes and also start physiotherapy immediately. With lifestyle changes if the degeneration is in the early stage you will recover with conservative treatment.
Do not lift heavy weights, wear proper footwear, and maintain normal BMI, exercise regularly, balanced diet, use proper bed and proper chair and always practice ergonomics in the way you live.

Hello,
It should be self evident that surgery for degenerative disc disease (DDD) is not appropriate unless other reasonable measures like proper conservative therapy have been exhausted. DDD is a completely normal part of the aging process and is rarely symptomatic. Physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and spinal injections often provide adequate relief.
The source of nerve compression will be evident by an X-ray/CT scans. Incase of doubt you can go for a diagnostic nerve block to identify the source.
Spinal fusion or disc implantation surgeries are the common surgeries for chronic DDD. Spinal fusion procedure and internal fixation devices are utilized. The spinal fusion procedure is basically a joining together of two or more adjacent vertebra to form a solid unit. The spinal fusion requires bone graft (preferably from the host).
