I have read numerous comments on CT scans, and remain a bit confused regarding the dosage and dangers involved. My GT has recommended a CT scan for periodic pain (upper rt. quadrant of abdomen) which has occurred over 7 yrs. I never got to talk to a radiologist and a technician was evasive....."We've studied it (the dangers), but talk to your doctor." He was unable to site any epidemiological studies on the subject. All I know is that it can be 100 times the amt. of radiation compared to a chest X-ray, that not all CT scans are the same, and it depends on the type of scanner and resolution level set. I read in MDiTV (a medical blog) that a 7 hr flight is .02 mSV/year, a domestic pilot receives mSv/year, and that an average dose for an abdominal X-ray is .70 mSv/year. If you or someone familiar with CT scans can comment on the meaning of this and the implications for my up and coming CT scan, it would be appreciated. Will
Sorry about that! Here's the link: http://www.mditv.com/blog/2010/06/17/3-things-you-should-know-before-getting-a-ct-scan/
CT Scans are good in small doses and spaced out over a long period of time. Here's a link to some information if you're getting a CT head scan, or any other part of your body scanned. Hope this helps and good luck!
Hello Dear,
Generally a CT scan can be repeated once in three months, but it may vary depending upon the pathological condition. You should consult your physician regarding the repetition of the scan
