growth on knee

wanting your opinions.
My Husband had many knee surgeriesas a teenager and now at the age of 42 he has steroid injections about every 4 months for pain.  But in the last three months a knot has grown on the side of his knee, it is the size of a golf ball and feels nery hard and boney.  Today our family doctor sent him for an x ray, and the radiologist said" that's wierd you would think it would be all bone but it's NOT"  ( the knot it's self is not pain full)
What does that mean, our doctor felt for sure it was all bone, like a large bone spur.
What could this mean?

Hello!

It can be due to arthritis, bursitis, previous injuries to the knee, calous, tendonitis or any tomour. It has to be diangosed properly.

Follow up with an orthopedician for a proper treatment after consultation from a radiologist for diagnosis of the growth. If required go for an MRI .
