left leg pain after back surgery

I had back surgery l4 l5 decompression sept 2010.  Now I have sever left but and calf pain.  The pain is so bad when I am walking it stops me in my tracks.  I asked the surgeon and he said you need a pain doctor and rushed me out of his office.  I have had 2 epidurals since and nothing is working.  I am in PT now and I feel it's aggravating it even more.  They are telling me it's coming from my back.  I have no pain in my back..starts in the center of my butt.  Please help if you have any suggestions.

Hello!

It is important to diagnose the cause of pain in your calf and leg. The most common reason is a local injury or a fall or accident. If you had any accident or injury; then get an X-ray done for proper diagnosis.

The other most common reason is due to your lower lumbar spinal issues. Get an X-ray and if required an MRI and get it commented by a radiologist.

Follow up with a neurologist for a proper diagnosis and treatment. Start pain management and start over the counter medications such as ibuprofen till you get a proper diagnosis. Maintain proper ergonomics in your daily living.

Take care!

Go to another neurologist. If any doctor is not willing or too busy to see you it is not fair to you. Your back may not be hurting but I would bet that it is the cause of the pain. Go to a doctor and see if chiropractic therapy will help. Do not however just go to a chiropractor. I have no idea how bad you back is, however I know mine I had a diskectomy decompression from L3-L5 and my back gets out of place easily. I took my medical records to my chiro. and get regular adjustments for the exact problem you are having, among others. Do any otc anti-inflammation meds help? Do you have arthritis in your back now? You can go to my profile page and see a chart of what the nerves control. This may be helpful to you, and if you do have arthritis try black cherry pills they help me more than the prescription meds. I took 6 per day for the first ten days then went to two per day I was really surprised how well they work, in a pinch juicy juice 100% cherry also works for swelling, inflammation. Best of luck.
