limited rotation of the wrist

I have never been able to turn my palms face up. I have been rejected from the military and unable to perform some activities without pain or discomfort. Is there a cure or procedure to help this out. I have done therapy and there has been no change. I am 37 years old and I guess I am used to it by now but always looking to fix it. PLease help anyway you can. Thanks

Hi, I hope I'm not hijacking this person's question here, but I see that he has not responded since his initial post nearly a year ago.

I too have had a problem with supination of my left arm (my right arm is normal) and have often wondered if it was worth exploring corrective action and what those possibilities might be.

I'm also 37 years old and first noticed the problem when I was about 5 years old.  At that time I was able to turn my arm to approximately 75% of the normal, fully supinated position.  In other words, with my arm out-stretched in front of me and supinated as far as it would go, my palm would be at roughly 135-degrees relative to a horizontal plane.  Pronation was completely normal and matched my right arm in terms of the range of movement in that direction.  The appearance of my arm is completely normal.  In fact, no one I have ever met has ever known that I had this defect unless they noticed me struggling to do something because of the lack of rotation or unless I explicitly told and showed them.

Over the past 30+ years, the amount of supination movement in my left arm has decreased to the point where I can now only get my palm to just under 90 degrees from horizontal - effectively preventing me from using my left hand to receive objects from another person, such as coins at a store or candies from my daughter.  Pronation still appears to be unaffected as best I can tell and I have never had any pain associated with the act of rotating my arm in either direction, however I have noticed recently that if I supinate my arm to its full extent with my elbow in a bent position, then extend my arm (for example, to shake hands with a left-handed person), I hear and feel a crunching in my elbow joint.  The pain is mild to moderate when doing this.  Any insight you might be able to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
Wayne

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello.

Can you explain in detail in what way is your wrist movement restricted ? And when you attempt to turn the palm face up, where do you get the pain ?

Regards

Hi,
Since when are you having this problem.
It looks that you are not able to supinate your forearm. If it is since birth , probably you may have some congenital abnormality.
It is difficult to comment on exactly what you have without clinical examination.
