medial ligament strain??????

Hi there
I fell down some stairs back in sept 09 twisting my right knee. At the time i felt someting "go" in my knee. By the next day it was swollen and i could not do any movement at all with it. As i was on holiday in a remote cottage i just applied RICE . I could not lift my knee on to the stool, had to do it manually and once in bed had to stop in that position, cause any movement was agony.Once home i bought a knee support and hoped with time it would improve.

By dec the knee was still swollen and i was unable to completely bend or straighten the knee, still tender on the inside so much so i slept with a pillow between my knees and still unable to turn over in bed, so i went to my GP who reffered me straight away to a o/s. The o/s ordered an MRI saying if anything showed up he would operate ASAPif not he would send me for some phyisio. Well the results which came back 2 wks ago ,show a medial ligament strain The o/s says he does not want to do anything at the moment but if still no better in a couple of months to go back to him!

So it is now almost 6 mths since i fell, there is still slight swelling over the joint, the knee locks/stiff when i get up in the morn or i have been sat for while,i can still not straighten it completely(painful and feels like something is stopping it),still can not turn over in bed, catches me on certain movements, although stairs(up or down) are not a problem. It does not give way but i sometimes get the feeling the joint is out of sync so i wriggle/twist it a little and that helps.I also find i am walking on the outside of my foot(not putting foot flat to the floor) as walking normally causes more grief.
Any ideas would be welcomed with open arms as i am getting so cheesed off with it all. Many thanks fo any help. D

Ok no comments or replies so far, i could do with some help as i do not want to bother the O/S unduely.

Update. The knee had seemed better almost to the point of no pain for a few days other than in bed when i try to lie on my right side with my leg straight and the foot pointing down, then it's real painful. Last night it was back to how it was a couple of months ago. Could not even lift the knee to turn over, hurting to bend and straighten it.The only thing i can put it down to is i went for a short walk whilst i waited for my dogs to be groomed. Seeing as my job is walking around wards all day .....this seems odd,but i thought i felt the joint clicking when i was walking yesterday. Please anybody?????

Managed to get copy or MRI report(work at hospital) and it is as follows.

Not evidence of discrete meniscal tear. Intrameniscal sign abnormality is seen within the posterior horn of the meniscus . Increased signal and thickening is noted  within the anterior cruciate ligament but no major laxity or discontinuity is detected.A sprain is noted of the anterior fibres of the MCL at their insertion into the medial femoral condyle. No joint effusion or bakers cyst is noted.
CONCUSION
The main features are a sprain to the anterior fibres of the MCL at its insertion into the MFC with evidence of a previous ACL injury.

So 6 mths from injury should i still be getting the pain i am getting, based on the MRI,if so how much longer can i expect it to continue until i am pain free???
Again many thanks for any help
