nerve pain after partial and reopened to remove nerve

I had my knee partiallly replaced on the inside of knee.  Was in a lot of pain in bursa sac area and along incision.  My ortho tried 3 injections and the nerve continued to intensely burn, twirl and I felt like something cold was running down the inside of my calf. I  felt this 24-7.  1 month ago the Dr. reopened the incision and clipped the nerve. I am now experiencing not as intense burning but like their are more nerves being hot.  Will this go away.?  I feel pain with most of my steps and and at night it is continually jabbing, burning.  I cannot imagine living like this.  Are their anti-inflammatory agents that are more natural than Lyrica or Celebrex. This is awful....Thank you for your help,  Ali Mullins

Dr. Simran,

Thank you so much for your information.  It helps to be able to search for more answers. At times when I am walking I will have pain on every step.  That is why I am asking about if I should be wearing certain shoes.  I want to believe that this is all normal after the 2 sugeries.  I did start on Lyrica yesterday to calm the nerves.  At times just a sheet against the knee will agitate the nerves.  Is this normal?  Possibly when he took out the one nerve maybe all the nerves are adjusting?  The Dr. said my nerve was very tiny so he clipped it instead of tucking it into a muscle. I do have a dent in that area.  I massage it to try to desensitise.  This site is good because I have someone to talk with about this.

Thank you and Blessings ...Ali

Hello,
Numbness is expected and normal after knee replacement. It is not a sign of any problem. The nerves take their own time to heal and regain their normal function. You should continue with regular physiotherapy. You should wear those shoes which are comfortableand do not try anything new.

Thank you for answering.  I do have the numbness that you talked about.  Normally  do the different nerves calm down?.  I bought a beach bike and go to the pool. Will different shoes make it worse.  I do not want to do anything to flare it up worse. I am at times on a Tens unit.  I am trying to lead a normal life.  Blessings....Ali

Hello Dear,
Most patients develop an area of decreased sensation (numbness) on the lateral (outer) aspect of the
knee. This is normal after a knee replacement. This area typically decreases in size over 6-12
months after the knee replacement. This numbness is expected and normal after knee replacement. It is not a sign of any problem.
You should focus on rehabilitation exercises and physiotherapy.
