pain in chest, neck and head

I had a complete hip replacement on Jan. 5th 2010. A little over a month ago. In the past several days, when I lye down on back, I get this awlful severe throbbing pain in my chest, throat and head.  Have to sit back up for it to go away.  Went to the ER a few days ago.  they did an EKG and it was okay.  Did blood test for blood clot in lungs which came out to be okay too.  Doctor said he thinks it is pleurisy, but was not certain.  I`m not convinced it`s pleurisy because sometimes it doesn`t hurt in chest but only in throat and head upon lying down.  When it is the most severe, the chest hurts badly also.  Is it possible that a blood clot has moved to my throat, (jugger vein), from my chest now, since that seems to be where it hurts most now?
I`ve been out of surgery for about a month now.  Could I still be at risk for blood clots?  Your help is very appreciated!
Kelley.

Hello!

Deep vein thrombosis is common after replacement surgeries.

Doppler ultrasonography and blood tests are used to detect deep vein thrombosis.

I would suggest you to discuss with your surgeon and rule out deep vein thrombosis. LMWH (low molecular weight heparin) is effective after hip replacement surgery. I would also suggest you to rule out acidity due to chronic use of pain killers.

Take care!
