post Knee surgery problems

Can I get cortisone shots after total knee replacement?  I've had swelling and much pain for the past 8 months and my surgeon says he's sorry this happen but there is nothing he can do about it.

Thanks for the reply.  I finally saw my ortho and he said cortisone may help but they don't like to give it when there's an implant because it can't be absorbed readily and infection would arise.  He also feels bad that it's still swollen but says once in a while someone has a problem like this and I have to live with it but with time it may go away.  I have done the icing and therapy but since it's over 8 months, I can't spend my life lying down.  I just wish the pain and swelling would go away.

Hi there!

Cortisone shots would be of little help post a TKR. You could try ice-packs/ warm compresses and OTC anti-inflammatory medications along with rest for a few days, followed by physiotherapy to strengthen muscles around the knee joint; and see if this seems to help. If your do not see any improvement it is advised to seek a review with your orthopedician to consider secondary issues and for appropriate management.
Hope this helps.

Take care!
