rib cage pain

i've been having cronic pain in my ribs for some time now. the pain is on both sides of my ribs, located kind of under my arms. it is painful to the touch and is very sensitive. It especiaally hurts when doing physical activity. i get shortness of breath, numbness, dizziness and nausia.I can reproduce the pain by taking a deep breath and tightening the muscles in my chest. Also hurts during random times during the day. it feels like really sharp pain, almost like someone is slideing a knife through my ribs. Also hurts sometimes when i lift my arms. I have seen a doctor and have done pulamary function tests, ekg's, and chest x-rays; all of which came back normal. Was perscribed ibeprofen, which did not help. I was finally dignosed with being out of shape! but i run and do exercise four times a week. Is this a logical dignoises, and if not, what could cause this kind of pain.

Hello Dear,

There could be some unnoticed trauma, bruising, osteoporesis, muscle soreness causing the pain in the ribs. Inflammation of the muscles and tendons between the ribs, stress and anxiety may also lead to pain.. Rest and immobilization are the best cure.Do not exert yourself and massage the area.
