s me most is the IP joint on the nail side is swollen and hard like bone!

I know these injuries are slow to heal and swelling can last months but why would the swelling around the IP joint feel hard, very disconcerting!

Sorry folks, I messed up the question! First part should read: I fell and sprained my thumb. The thumb swelled up and IP joint was painful for  3 weeks, it is 6 weeks now and pain is much much better but the swelling hasn't gone down. What concerns s me most is the IP joint (on the nail side) is swollen and hard like bone! The rest of the thumb is swollen but soft.
