sciatic nerve damage due to dislocated hip

I was in an accident where i dislocated my leg which in turn bruised my sciatic nerve in my left leg. My neuroligist has been telling me for the past 6mths since the accident that this nerve will regrow(have no movment in foot feeling is coming back slowly in foot and lower leg). Why can i not find any information about this on the net. Does the nerve which is the largest nerve in the body really regrow and if so how long does it take and what to do to ease the pain?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

Functional recovery after nerve injury involves a complex series of steps. It needs patience, time and physiotherapy. Your neurologist or any doctor can predict but cannot give you the exact time of regeneration. Some sensation will come and you will improve slowly.

Nerve growth factor (NGF) is a small secreted protein which is important for the growth, maintenance, and survival of certain target neurons (nerve cells). You can discuss about this with your neurologist.

Take care!
