Ever heard of people having bone spurs in their feet? well, this is like that. they irritate the tissues around them and the nerves. Since it is in your neck consider it like water running down stream. Your brain is the pain center..it receives signals from different areas of your body. and when the neck is involved it can hurt in odd places from your shoulders, arm, face, jaw, head, ears..does this help any? the spurs can be removed surgically and they will need to be if they become a constant problem for you.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
The tiny spurs could be causing nerve impingement and stretching of the vertebral lining and soft tissue which could be causing you pain. If these  nerve roots are pinched or pressed upon (C3-4 andC6-7), they will cause pain in varying areas of arm, neck, chest, back, shoulder, head and face. MRI of the cervical spine and nerve conduction studies may be required. Please consult a neurologist. The treatment is to remove the compression. You have to discuss the best treatment option with a neurologist, which can range from medication to physiotherapy to traction, cervical collars or even surgery. Alternatively you can visit a chiropractor or a physical therapist and learn some exercises which you can do to relieve the compression, but consulting a neurologist specializing spinal pain/spinal surgery is a must. Hope this helps. Take care!
