What can happen if a bone is broken in your leg and it goes untreated because you have spina bifida and you cannot feel your legs.

Thank-you for replying.

The break was noticable right away, upon having the leg xrayed it showed that some bones in the foot were broken as well, and there not sure how long those bones were broken.
The bone that was broken was the femur bone.  Surgy has been done and a pin was put in place.  I am concerned and worried if other complications could arise as a result of this action.
You mentioned that blood vessels are at risk of injury from the broken bones, what if anthing could that lead to?
Thank-you

Hello.

This is an unfortunate event. How long was it before you realized that you had a fracture?

The worst that can happen is a non-union of the two ends of the bone. A fracture bone needs immobilization for he two ends to approximate and fuse together in alignment. If you keep on moving the limb, the two ends may not fuse properly.

There are some other complications. Blood vessels and nerve are at risk of injury from the broken parts of the bone.

Is it the fibula that is fractured?
