sprained ankle.. still in much pain.. worried its more

I sprained my ankle a week ago today...

It actually rolled on me.. swollen & black & blue I went to the ER even though I figured it was a sprain. They said I sprained it badly.. and the Xrays had shown funky spots on my ankle but they figured they were from old injuries. I do sprain my ankles a lot. They said I must have never left them heal properly.. They told me to stay off the foot for 3 entire days Which I did.. almost 4 days.. then i used my crutches and brace to walk so it wasn't getting all the weight at once..

Well here I am a week later and I am still having a great deal of pain with it. They had said if it wasn't better in 5 to 7 days to see an Ortho surgeon. Should I? Or should I just deal with it? Is it worth seeing the dr if they already said it was just a sprain. In past sprains.. i was walking in a day.. so it confuses me that I did it properly this time and it still hurts so badly.

i went to the hospital sunday and they told me my foot was severely sprained, strained, and bruised and they sent me home with an elastic bandage around it and crutches! . its now a couple days later and my pain is still strong and hurting very badly. i think it could be something more! should i go see an ortho doctor or wait it out? the hospital told me if if dont get any better i might need to get a boot on my foot for a while. i still cant walk or apply pressure to my left foot at all.

You should see an orthopedist and get some new xrays done to see how you are coming along.  Sprains are often worse that a frscture and can take a long time to heal, especially if you have them repeatedly.  You may want to get an orthopedic cast (removable boot) from the doc for extra support of the foot and ankle during this healing time.  Make sure you are exercising the foot for range of motion to prevent the muscles from getting stiff.  good luck

Yes you should see a orthopedic surgeon. You have sprained your ankles so many times you probably have a lot of cartilage damage, ligament, tendons, muscle damage. You can injure it so many times then it will just not get any better.Make an appointment with a refered orthopedic surgeon.Take care of your self.P.S.Ice it a lot do it for about 30 minutes, then do ten to twenty minutes of heat, until you get in with the orthopedic surgeon.
