swelling ankle after knee

Hi! About 9 days ago I got a MCL (medial ligament) sprain on my left knee, doing sports, i'm in my mid 30s. Minor swelling and some pain to knee. The knee started feeling around 80% better about 3 days ago. I wore knee brace every day even to sleep, 2 days ago I changed to a more comfortable brace with those metal hinges on sides, also slept with it. My current issue/question, is 2 days ago I woke up with a swollen ankle and pain when putting leg down to walk. I don't remember any sprain in ankle at all, I had just walked a theme park the night before with no ankle issue or even the knee felt great.

The pain is more like a burn sensation when i lower it, if i lift it it stops right away. I've iced it a couple of times, swelling goes down a bit. Doesn't feel like the typical ligament pain/discomfort. Strange..

What could this be, can the knee injury have affected ankle area and swell?

Thank you, I appreciate it!!
