tib/fib fx question

I am David, 46 years old with very good health. 5 months ago I slipped on wet leaves, spun around and had an open tib/fib fx about 3 in above the ankle. The tibia was fixed with plates and screws which will be permanent. Now I can walk with a small limp, have had no physical therapy. On the last ortho visit I found the the fibula fx had not been fixed at all. The doctor said there was no reason to resolve the fibula fx. Would it not be a good idea to resolve both of these fractures ? I am confused and concerned about what actions should be taken at this point. Do you have an opinion on this issue ? Thank you.

Hi there! I had basically same injury and after 5 months my fibula had not healed so I had a bone graft done.-This is where they take some bone from your hip to put in fibula with some more hardware. I have heard so many takes on fibula fractures-leave them,& even have it removed all together! My take on it is to be put back together as close as new as one can.    Good luck to you!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

Fibula is a thin bone and tibia will act as a splint for fibula to heal.

1) If you have grossly dislocated your fibula by the fracture;
2) If have problems such as mal-union and non-union of the fibula bone; then your orthopaedic surgeon will fix your fibula bone.

Take a second opinion.

Take care!
