Looking for natural remedies for Osteoporosis

Hi, I am a 65-year-old with a recent diagnosis of severe osteoporosis. I have been on Fosamax for # months but am worried about the side effects. Is there any calcium that works better than others? I have been on calcium and vitamin D supplements for years but went from osteopenia level to full-blown severe osteoporosis in a few years I would appreciate any advice since the medical field tells you nothing but to take medication and deal with the outcome!! Thank you, Jma56

Hello! Welcome to MedHelp and thank you for posting on our forums.  I'm sorry for the delay in response. This is a great question as so many and especially women eventually deal with this issue. Working with your doctor is always best and a doctor should listen to their patients.  Perhaps they will still hold the idea that prescription medication is best to take, they can also be aware of your desire to avoid that and to use natural methods instead.  Besides your current doctor, there is a specialty that you may want to include in your care.  Holistic doctors work with natural medicine and practices to help conditions. Some have fully been to medical school and are MD's and I'd recommend looking for that first.  Here's a link to just one of many holistic medical clinics and what they have to say regarding osteoporosis natural treatment. https://philaholisticclinic.com/natural-treatment-for-osteoporosis/    Because supplmenting with anything can impact you, we do recommend you consult with someone.  Even a nutritionist. Calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium are important for bone health.  Recommendations of what amount to take would be best with someone that knows your medical history.  Even a nutritionist could be of benefit to you.  Are you doing weight bearing exercise by the way? This video is helpful. https://health.clevelandclinic.org/the-best-workouts-for-osteoporosis/
