Solid Cyst

There is so much information online.....

I am scared, probably just hyping myself for no reason. During the course of a CT scan they found a 3 cm cyst on my left ovary. I was having (am still having) problems with my bowl movements and urinating frequency. I went to my OB for my pelvic, and they scheduled an exteral and interal ultrasound. The cyst is solid. There is no family history of ovarian cancer, though there is a history of cysts. I do not have deseases that would cause cysts, like PID or endometriosis, and it doesn't have hair and teeth. In the two months between the CT and the ultrasound there has been no change in size. I have a consultation with my OB in one week, and I want to know what to expect. What are some of the treatments he might suggest? What are some questions I should ask?

I know how you feel..last year I was diagnosed with 2 large cysts, along with a fibroid. I had endometriosis which is what caused my cysts...Dont worry . they will probably recommend removing it possible laproscopically which is not as major as abdominal surgery..Have your Dr do a ca-125...and if he suggests removing it ...always get a 2nd opinion..Good Luck...Gia :)

Hi
Given the size alone he/she may say you could wait but the solid component of the cyst may make him/her be more inclined to remove it.  You mentioned that you were having sxs so I would ask the likelihood that those could be r/t this cyst.  I'm a proponent of 'if it doesn't belong there get it out' regardless of size.  You could ask about an exploratory lap and that way your MD could get a good look at your cyst and surrounding area and take the cyst out as well.  You don't necessarily have to lose the ovary but it does happen depending on how invasive the cyst is w/in or on the ovary (I did lose mine but had a 7cm cyst stuck to it).
The only way to know for sure what it is is to have it taken out and biopsied.

I would think there is mainly 2 suggestions. #1 is waiting since your cyst is less than 5cm. #2 is surgery remove.  If u already symptoms I would prefer remove if I were u.

But make sure u see a GYN/oncologist before surgery, doesn't mean u have cancer but they have extra training in this area. The best is to find a GYN/oncologist to perform the surgery, at least find one stand by.

How old are u?  Have u had ca125 done?

Best wish

Yes, there sure is a lot of information on line. It gets a little confusing, after awhile, doesn't it? I'm glad you are continuing on with a consult with your OB in a week. It sounds as if you are getting a lot of uncomfortable symptoms associated with your cyst. It is GOOD that there is no family history of OvCa. There is probably a less than 5% chance that your cyst is cancerous!!!! Your doctor may, however, suggest that you be looked at surgically (that's really the only way to rule out cancer). I'm GUESSING that you will just need your cyst and maybe ovary removed. A lot depends on your age and what you feel comfortable with having done.

I, also, wanted to let you know that there is an Ovarian Cyst Forum on MedHelp, too. You may find that forum a nice one for discussing more about your cyst. Best of luck, to you. We're here if you have more questions or just want to talk.

Hugs,
Shari
