2.8cm-left ovarian cyst and 1.1cm endo.stripe.. is this dangerous?

Hello, my name is Barbara. I am 50 years old, and perimenopausal. I have found out I have a 2.8 cm cyst on my left ovary, and also, an endometrial stripe 1.1 cm (11mm)
I have heard that there are cancerous cysts.. I have tried multiple times doing online searches on how to identify a malign cyst (by size, etc.) but unsuccessfully.. same with the endometrial stripe; I was wondering if any of you knew what size would be dangerous (cancerous) for the left ovarian cyst & 1.1 cm endometrial stripe? Or are there any other ways of identifying a problem? Any help would be extremely appreciated;I'm very worried about this on top of many other help problems.

Thank you so much
God bless-Barbara293

Welcome!  The ladies here have given you great advice.  As said before, even though 99% of ovarian cysts are benign, you should not ignore your symptoms.  Try to find a gyn/onc as they are specialists and have seen everything.  The ca125 is not a reliable test for premenopausal & perimenopausal women, but is used as a marker "if" cancer is found.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed

You will probably rest better if you have it checked out.  If not, you will continue to think about it every time you have an ache or pain in your abdominal area--even indigestion.  I am fast becoming a big believer in "peace of mind."

Even though 99% are nothing serious, it just makes you rest better to "know for sure."

God Bless

Unfortunately, the only way to determine if the cyst is malignant or not is to remove the cyst and send it to a pathologist.  There is no simple and easy way to determine if the cyst is benign or not by considering the data on the cyst.

For example, I am also perimenopausal, and in 2004 I  developed a large cyst, complex, with solid components, thick cyst walls,  large blood supply, and attachment to other organs and tissues in the abdomen.  My symptoms included abdominal bloating, irregular periods/cessation of periods, spotting, frequent urination, digestive upsets and intestinal upsets with flatulance, and fatigue.  If you have ever read a list of the symptoms of ovarian cancer, then you know that my symptoms, as well as the description of my cyst, read like the very description of the disease...yet surgery and study proved the mass was benign.

As for the endometrial stripe, it may very well be a symptom of the hormonal disruptions that occur with perimenopause.  It might also be due to uterine conditions, conditions that have no connection to the cyst on your ovary.

I am 51, menopausal had a 5.9 cm complex cyst on right ovary and endometrium was 12 mm. I had laparascopic surgery to remove the cyst and ovary and everything was benign. The reason for the thickened endometrium was a small benign polyp which was also removed. These wonderful ladies here who are more knowledgable that I am will come along and tell you that 99% of cysts are benign. Try not to worry too much.
