Abdominal swelling and ovarian cancer

I am exstremely worried about ovarian cancer.  I had night sweats, trouble sleeping on either side, great fatigue, pain in my back and shoulder, vomiting, low fever, blurrying eyesight, abdominal swelling, breast tenderness, pain in the hip and thigh area and groin.  I felt bloated and heavy.  I went to my family doctor and he had me take first a urine pregnancy test and then a pregnancy blood test, both were negative.  He sent me home and I went back about a week later feeling worse.  He suspected a tubal pregnancy, ulcer, you name it and sent me to a surgeon who ordered a transvaginal ultrasound.  I was not pregnant and nothing was said about a tubal but the lady who performed the test said it would take a couple of days to get the results to my doctor.  I still feel horrible and it is getting harder now to eat, to use the bathroom and the pressure is getting very intense.  I have had two Aunts die of ovarian cancer and this concerns me that this could be what I am facing.  Is abdominal swelling dangerous?  I can tell you it is painful on the back, kidneys, etc.  Please advise as what my next step should be?  If this is ovarian cancer what stage is abdominal swelling.  I have had up to eight ovarian cysts before and when one big one broke the ER doctor told me they aren't painful and that I had flu, I ended up in the hospital three days later with ruptured ovarian cysts.

Abdominal swelling is very serious (ascites).  I started seeing my doctor in December 2004.  After a CAT scan,  & ultrasound he recommended that I see my gastroenterologist to have it drained and tested.  I made an appt. but ended up in the emergency room (Jan 9, 2005) looking 8 months pregnant; there was so much fluid I could breath.(I'm 50 yrs. old).  After it was drained and told it was cancerous, I went to an oncologist immediately. After a hysterectomy  and debulking, I was diagnosed with primary peritoneal cancer Stage IIIc (mimics ovarian cancer).  Looking back, I had every symptom of ovarian cancer, please don't delay....take care of you

Your doctor told you that they are not painfull - what an idiot (bet it was a man right?) The extent to which you have a swollen abdomen has nothing what so ever to do with staging. It may be fluid or in fact just the size of the cyst - assuming you even have one. You have an extensive range of symtoms some of which I have never heard of being connected to a cyst but if you have had many before thats the first thing I would have suspected. Dont you just wonder what these doctors are actually learning in their 9 years at med school.

Apart from waiting for the results of the U/S there isn't much more you can do. Second guessing anything to do with OC is futile I am afraid its just a horrible case of playing the waiting game. But lets be positive here. Firstly you dont even know yet if you have a cyst and secondly even if you do 99% are benign. If you have 2 aunts who have died of OC and you keep getting cysts I would strongly advise you to have the BRAC gene test, simply for your own sanity.
