Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding

I skipped a period in April, got one in May and then got one two weeks later that will not stop.  I thought it was slowing down after 8 days, but now it is like it has just started over again.  I have been bleeding for 11 days now.  I am 31.  My Dr. is out of town and his nurse thinks it's just a hormone imbalance, but I am scared.  Any information or advice?  I am afraid that I have cancer.

I to am bleeding age 59, Went to the dr said cancer without any kind of tests or blood work, so naturaly I am scared to death, I have an 8 yr old daugther(adopted), her father pasted in 2006.
I was seeing one Dr that gave me shots of b-12 and testrone and estrogel without doing any blood work first, then I get the shot and he sends me down for blood work ,so of course my testorone was high, nurses told me he should have waited a week. I am going crazy here, I dont have all systoms that I have read about that means cancer.
odor--no, pain-no,pain with sex--no,mild cramps yes,.
Had all medical check up and came back ok,pap, mammagram, heart.
But no dr has given me a complete or hormonal blood work before yelling cancer.
PLEASE HELP I CAN BE REACHED AT ***@****
THANK YOU

I am 26 years old and i skipped my period in June, in july i started bleeding about the beginning of the month. I thought oh ok i started my period, it is now the end of august and i am still bleeding. I went to the ER about 3 weeks ago and they did a pelvic examine. The nurse told me YOUR FINE its normal. I told her THIS IS NOT NORMAL. My periods are regular and last 3 days. I have been bleeding for over a month. I went to a OB/GYN and she wanted an ultrasound done. I tried to have it done but everyone is giving me the run around because i have no insurance. I don't know what to do, i am scared.

I agree with all of you. My ovarian cyst was diagnosed after some "spotting" that went on and on. Sometimes, irregular bleeding is a warning that something is not right. I wouldn't ignore it, even though many times it is just hormonal.

Hello- I wanted to comment about the abnormal bleeding and tell you about my recent experience. I am 46 and noticed some abnormal bleeding. I called my gyno office and made an appt right away, after all we ladies do know our bodies. So here I was telling him what's been going for 4 months and how careful I am in tracking my cycles ( which are always perfect). He basically just did an internal exam ----NO Pap and said to me that there is nothing wrong with me considering my age and handed me a pack of Yasmin (birth control pills) to regulate my hormones. I did mention that my cylces are always on track...it's just that my panty liners are showing wetness along with a tinge of pink color. Nope...he said stop worrying and he here's this all the time, and all his ladies LOVE the birth control pills. He even went as far as guarantee that I will be calling him and thanking him. So I left the office kinda in shock and said ...nope, I need a second opion. So I called another office and that took 4 weeks to get in. On 6/12 They did a biopsy and a pap along with blood work. After the biopsy, I started to cramp and bleed.(this could happen) The first day wasn't that bad, but the second day got real bad. I was bleeding so bad that I was rushed to the ER 6/15 and had my new OB (women) came and did emergency surgery. I also had a D & C, so when I woke the Dr said that the bleeding is stopped and all the stuff was sent to pathologist and I was to stay overnight to be watched. The next day 6/16 I went home and was so excited that it was over. On Monday 6/19 at 5:50 pm I get a call from my new OB and she says that all my results are now in. The biopsy came back on fri 6/16,but she wanted all the results from the sugery before she'd call me. My biopsy came back A tipical (abnormal) and the results from my D&C confirmed that I had CANCER of the uterus. At the time, my two kids were with me talking about the future, son starting college and my teen daughter excited to be rid of her brother from the high school. It was rough...... My dr said if it were me, I would want to know right away and I appricated her completly. I said that going to them was a blessing, after all I could have just been out there taking birth control pills and never finding out. So I am so happy that I did go with my gut and get another dr to really listen to me. As far as my other OB...I'll be seeing him on 6/28 to give him back the birth control pills, get my records and advise him to not only listen to his patients, but at least take a pap. I have an appt with a specialist and will continue being in control of my health.

I had a similar experience to the previous comment - dr. said I just didn't have enough progesterone & gave me hormones and then I started bleeding more, ended up in ER a few months later & had radical hysterectomy due to endometrial cancer. Do get 2nd, 3rd, or more opinions and look for a good dr. - I couldn't find one I was happy with until it was too late...start looking ASAP. I regret that I didn't have an endometrial biopsy or D&C.

i'm also a newbie on this site and this is my 2nd posting.
i, too, started with  1 1/2 month of heavy bleeding started in april  and became anemic due to it. that's how i've asked my gp for an u/s and found out about my ovarian cyst and  then i called my ob/gyn. i am now waiting for my 2nd ultrasound scheduled on july 17.   but meanwhile, i'm keeping track of my period/bleeding, appointments and conversations with my specialist, as well as  all the other symptoms (as i experience them) that are related to o/c in my calendar so i would know where i'm at when i visit my ob/gyn again. the bleeding stopped for 3 weeks and just recently, i started spotting for 5 days and 10 days of combined medium and heavy bleeding, and 2 days of slow period before it got clear again.  the last 2 days was when i started taking birth control pills.  that's when the bleeding stopped. and i'm still waiting and wondering.............

goodluck to everyone and take care.

Excessive bleeding could be from benign uterine fibroids. That's what I had. It can be diagnosed thru ultrasound. I kept on having longer & heavier & more frequent periods. I let it drag on for way too long(2 years) I finally had to have a hysterectomy(kept ovaries)at 40yrs old because I bled for 3 months straight. It's true it could be hormonal imbalance too. Have you dr order you an ultrasound which will probably tell you a lot. Hope you feel better. Don't worry.

Hi Runna, it could very well be hormonal. But, sometimes irregular bleeding can be a sign of an ovarian cyst. If it continues, you might want to ask for an ultrasound. I really doubt you have cancer.
