Alternative Protein Tests for Avastin

Hello, in 2006 my mom was diagnose with stage IV ovarian cancer.  As a result of the tumor she needed a stent placed in her ureter and one of her kidneys is <10% functional.  She often has blood in her urine, her urologist believes due to the stent.  She had been on Avastin for about 6 months and her oncologist decided about a month ago to take her off due to high protein in her urine.  Her urologist thinks the urine test could be skewed too much by the blood, and the protein levels in her blood are acceptable.  My question is: are there any other tests to assess how the Avastin is effecting her kidneys?  Thank you for any information you can provide, Jon

You might have more luck with this question in the expert forum or the Chemotherapy forum - they are both covered by very good doctors who should be able to provide an answer to this.

I would be interested too - my wife is due to start Avastin this week and also has a Stent due to a narrowed ureter so this may come up for us too.

Thank you for the info, I think I found the forum you are talking about(Under forums->ask-a-doctor->chemotherapy), but can't find how to start a new discussion topic.  Am I looking in the right place?

Good luck to your wife.. Avastin was the drug my mom tolerated the best and was showing slow progress in reducing the tumor sizes.  I will update this thread with a link to any new one.

I had the same problem - not sure how to get around that...

There is an Ovarian Cancer Expert forum (scroll down this page and see the expert forums box on the right hand side) which might also be useful - there seems to be a "post a question" button on that page.
