Andrometriosys (sp)???

Well ladies, I saw the dr. today.  With my symptoms and his checking out the photo he took of my uterus during my lap, his conclusion is that it is most likely that I have andrometriosys (sp).  Anyway, he said that the only real way to take care of this is the hyster.  However he wants to do it vaginally and leave my little piece of ovary.  He said it would be a total vaginal hyster, taking the uterus and the cervix, but leaving the ovary.  I will be in the hospital (way better than the surgery center) only one night - if all goes as planned.  If, when he gets in there and finds that it cannot be done vaginally, then he will have to do the open version. He did check to see if my uterus was far enough down (that hurt) and he says he should be able to do this.  Actually, I am ok with it.  So, I have to wait for Nurse Judy to call me Tuesday and schedule.  Anyone else have this (I know I am not spelling it right).

I will be thinking of you on Tuesday!  It sounds like everyone who has had this procedure, though, is glad to have done it and have it behind them.

During my laparotomy my doctor removed an adenomya suspected of being a fibroid.  She said it had started to envelop my right tube and the right tube may no longer be operatable because of it.  It is something I will definitely have to keep an eye on since it seems to come back.  My gyn said it was like an internal endometriosis.  You are in my prayers for a successfull surgery and speedy recovery!!

Thanks for the info Katie and for looking out for me.  I had a d&c 12/21/05 and my dr said he scraped my uterus clean.  It is all back and so is the constant pain.  If I just had heavy periods, I would go for the ablation, but that wouldn't get rid of the pain and constant bloating.  I have pain between periods too. Believe me, I have been thinking about this a long time so it is not something that I am rushing into.  Also, my dr is great and does not do hysters just for kicks.  I have a history of severe cervical dysplasia and uterin polyps.  I will keep my teeny tiny bit of ovary (that little bugger is working just fine for anyone wondering if a portion of your ovary can do the job of two - yes it can!!) so that I can go through natural menopause (I did surgical menopause right after my dermoid surgery - prior to my little ovary kicking in) so I think natural should be a breeze!  Also, thanks to Mary53 we have access to such wonderful hormone info.

Tascha, adenomyosis means thickened uterus.  It is not always a reason to have a hysterectomy though.... hmmm.... from one who has doubts about having had a hyster.....make SURE you need it done first Kiddo... Love ya

Hi Gasby,  you may not remember me.  I posted back in December and January while I was going throuhg my ordeal... I had my full hsyterectomony in Feburary and I had adenomysis, fibroids in uterus and tumor.  I have been feeling SO MUCH better since the surgery (and I had it all done vaginally too!)  Recovery was slow at first, but I can say that I have been really feeling awesome the last month, even having enough energy to play tennis with my boys!  You give these women here SO MUCH encouragement and thoughtfulness.  I pray that you will be feeling well soon and find all your answers.  May God be with you tonight and always, busy

Do you have endometriosis? (With endometrial tissue outside the uterus?)  Or adenomyosis (with endometrial tissue IN the layers of the uterine wall)?

I had a hysterectomy for adenomyosis 4 years ago, it was the best thing I ever did!  They had to do the abdominal surgery because I'd had 2 c-sections and they were afraid there'd be scar tissue & adhesions.  Still it was totally worth it.

The only cure for adenomyosis is a hysterectomy, although sometimes hormones (BC pills or lupron) can help.

I found out AFTER my hysterectomy that I too have/had adenomyosis and apparently that was a major cause of my bleeding and pain. Had fibroids too, and a tumor. All gone now and no bleeding. I'm glad you can go vaginally, I hear that's a bit easier recovery. I had mine abdominally though and I feel pretty darn good (it was May3rd)..Whichever way they get it all out of there I hope you feel better soon! nanik

I'm thinking of you, too, Gatsby!  I'm sorry to hear that further surgery is required, and I hope with all of my heart that it goes smoothly and brings you relief from your pain.  You truly are a remarkable woman, and I want to thank you for your support of all of us here.  Despite your own health issues, you are always one of the first people to lend your support and to give words of encouragement here and I know I am not alone in saying that that means the world to a cyster.
