Ankle swelling, OVCA and Femara

Mum had stage 3 OVCA Mar 2005, reoccured Nov 2007. Chemo given as reoccurance was small area in liver and pelvic area. Scan in March showed all areas were gone, CA125 back to 12. She was put on Femara as maintanence. For the past 2 weeks her ankles have been getting swollen at night and she gets aches in her ankles and her wrists but she had these aches whilst on chemo.
She went to see her local Dr, not her cancer Dr and she said it could be a sign her liver is not working or the cancer has spread to her bones but when I looked at the Femara side effects on line it says fluid retention can occur whilst on these.
Can anyone advise?
Her local Dr has taken some blood to test for calcium levels.

Thanks

I was on femara and the pain was so bad.  I thought my back and knees hurt from exercise  the pain was from femara.  all my bones hurt.  when i went off it within 10 days the pain was gone.  I am now on aromatex although not purfect the pain is minimal and if i swim alot it helps with the pain.  there are other drugs that do the same.  have her ask her doctor for another choice go off femara lett the ppain go away and then start the new   good luck

I was on Femara twice in the past year, and I had adverse reactions both times.  Blood clots are not indicated while on it, but I developed them both times I was on it.  My legs and ankles swelled daily.  Femara is an Aromatase Inhibitor, and one of the side effects of all of them is bone pain.  I am currently on Aromasin, and although it is doing great things for my cancer, it makes my bones hurt all the time.  There is certainly no harm in getting checked out by her local doc, but this might ease your mind a bit.  Did he also check her Vitamin D level?
