At a loss....

I don't usually post a question but I am kinda desperate. Ever since my surgery I have had intermitant pain in the area where my right ovary should be. It seems that ever time I have cramp or pain for what ever reason in my lower abdomen it localises in that same area. Well since my misscarriage I have been getting the same stabbing pains in my "right ovary" that isnt there - last night it was so uncomfortable it woke me up a couple times. I was so confused this morning I even rang my doctors receptionist to get her to check my notes from 2 years ago, just to make sure it was the right ovary that was removed - of coure it was. I have heard of phantom pain but what on Earth can be done. I had to sit down while shopping on Monday because it hurt so and I know there is nothing there to hurt - I dont even have a fallopian tube. Ugh any suggestions gratfully recieved its starting to effect my quality of life some. Not to mention making me paranoid as im TTC.

Love you

Its good to see you posting more now. Sorry that your post is about having pain. Hopefully the doctors can figure something out. Hey maybe its your appendix causing problems since its on the right side. Oh, or it could be adhesions try the body rolling. If you need the instructions Mary and I have them. We'll gladly send it to you. Unfortunatly theres not much in the area other than appendix and colon. I will send a prayer up for you.  You have to get all better your birthday is coming up in May. How are you going to celebrate? Talk to ya later, Paula

Anna,

I still get those mystery pains, too.  I have nothing left...at all!  I just chalk it up to phantom pains and/or gas.  When was your last U/S?

Hugs,
Shawn

I'm with you, having pain like that is a concern. I'm having zingers of pain on my right side that wraps over my hip and into my back. But my left ovary was removed and she said my right ovary is great (she looked while she was in there). You just want to know what's going on.

They did post the ball rolling information earlier on this site and it sounds great. If you suspect adhesions, try it. It didn't sound complicated and it may help. Best wishes for success with the "TTC."   :-)

It has helped us.

The ball I used measures 16 inches. Again, though, I did not get the ball thru the website (Body rolling is a dot com, one word, and you can learn about the woman who developed the technique. Anyway, I got just an ordinary ball in a toy section at Target and it looked similar to the one the instructor had used. The ball I have has a picture of Blues Clues on it! Hey, it works. It probably is bigger than the ones they recommend, but, if you think about it, it is squishy to the point where once all my weight is on it, it probably shrinks down to about ten inches. And, I just put my "front" onto the ball for the pelvic pain and not my back.

-------------------------------------
Here is how I did it...leaning my body wt. into it, literally placing the ball underneath me and "rolling" on it...slowly.

I would lay on the pubic bone and then take about four minutes or so to SLOWLY (while remembering to take deep breaths now and then) work my way out to the right side where the ovary once was on that side. After you get there, go back slowly to the pubic bone...breathe deeply. When you get to the pubic bone again, then go to the other side, following a path, if you will, of where you imagine the falopian tube once was. So, you are rolling in something like a "V" formation. After you get to the left side where the ovary once was, then go back to the pubic bone...and, you are done. But, take about 15 minutes to do the whole procedure.

My last US was just after my miscarriage so it can't be ORS, erm its interesting you said the colon was there I do have chronic constipation almost ALL the time - that will be compounding everything. Right bal rolling it is...... although I need to be carefull with that one at the moment too.....

Hey Anna, I'll test it out and see how it works for me. Thanks ladies, what a team!
(Seems like chronic constipation/bowel issues are a common theme on this forum. Would be nice if someone specialized in it versus OC and tumors and cysts. I know in general it is a major problem for cancer patients, most often due to pain medication, so it is very sad someone hasn't found a good way to address it).

Thanks again!

Paula, Thanks for posting the technique for body rolling. I am going to repost something I posted about a week ago in a message and I think I posted it here, but I cannot remember. Bless you Paula...I loved the concise instructions. I am going to go into detail now for those who like all the gorey details or need some more encouragement to try this if the doctor says it is okay....
**************************************************************************************************
I am sure there might be others with a bit of a different technique, but I did not order anything special ... I just followed the lead of the exercise teacher who was helping me.

The exercise teacher had just taken a course from a woman named Umana and she is from Russia..she developed a program called Body logic. It is a dot com at Bodylogic. But, again, I did not order anything from her, but you should certainly look at it.

I had no idea how painful adhesions are! I am very grateful I found this tecnique. Check with your doctor to make sure you can/should do this type of intense abdominal massage.

Well, I guess that is the best I can do...but, I think it is probably just a little confusing at first...so, take a look again and I am sure you will get a visual in your head. I mean, I felt like Superman lying on this ball...as if trying to fly!

((((I put updated info at the bottom just verifying that this really did work (for me at least!)....hoping this helps.)))))

Mary************************************************************************************************

The woman who taught me how to do this is an Exercise Instructor. She said that one reason she wanted to learn this was so that she could teach elderly people how to do it since some of our insides "glue together" as we age and that this releases much of the gluing because of all the blood, thus oxygen, it brings to the area.

In my case, I had a total hysterectomy in 2000 and suffered from surgical adhesions for about a year. The adhesions were colapsing my colon thus giving me a Dx. of IBS. The pain from the adhesions started about three months post-op. This technique seems to break up the adhesions and it worked for me.  I figured that if it worked for adhesions that formed naturally in our body, it should work for surgical adhesions. It did!

It is truly amazing. I noticed a HUGE difference immediately. When I sat up after the fist time I did this (about a 15 min. session) I could feel a "FLOOD" or a Rush of blood or something! going to that area. After having pain about 40 times an HOUR for over a year and a half after my surgery, my pain decreased to only about 10 times a DAY for a few seconds at a time. I did this procedure again about a week after the first one and that gave me even more relief. I think it was about four months til I had to do it again. Now I do it about once a year, if that. I have been virtually pain free, ,aside from a dull ache now and then, from adhesions since learning this technique.

The idea is you want to get the blood to the bone, not just the muscle....so it floods the tendons and gets lots of oxygen there to start healing and breaking up the adhesions.

**My instructor told me to think of a steak and how the tendon is sort of splotchy with blood where it is attached to the bone...well, you want to get the blood totally to the bone so as to really break things up. Regular massage is not "deep" enough.

The ball I used measures 16 inches. Again, though, I did not get the ball thru the website (Bodylogic.com) but you can go there and check it out if you want. The website is all about body rolling and about the woman (her name is Yumana and I think she is from Russia) who developed the technique. Anyway, I got just an ordinary ball in a toy section at Target and it looked similar to the one the instructor had used. The ball I have has a picture of Blues Clues on it! Hey, it works. **********************Udated information....August 2007***********************

At first I did this technique twice in two weeks. Then I had to do it about once every two months or so...then about once a year. When my doctor did the laparscopy on me in June,07 (hoping to find adhesions so we could figure out why I have been having pain, which they now think is from a ruptured disk) he was shocked at how "clean" my insides were. He said he actually consulted another doctor about it. He said that you always see evidence of any type of abdominal surgery no matter how invasive the surgery. And, since I had such a huge surgery back in 2000, he expected to see some type of adhesion debries...but did not see anything. A great testimonial to Body rolling!

I always suggest checking with the doctor. I am not a doctor, just a person miserable from the pain of
adhesions.

It does hurt a little while you are doing it, that is for sure, since you are initially pressing on the pubic bone with all the weight you can manage to put on the ball. And then you roll slowly to where the ovaries once were and yes, it is not the most pleasant feeling, but it is a "good hurt" if you know what I mean.

Simply Star has talked about using a Medicine ball for this procedure...but not the hard type. She mentioned the type of Medicine ball that is "squishy." I bought one for the sake of weight training and for a just in case those nasty things return!

Take care and good luck!

Anna, I am so very sorry to hear that you are in pain.  My thoughts were the same as Pams that maybe you have ORS.  It is definately worth looking into.  Mine DID NOT show up on a US, but it did show up on a CT-scan.  I hope you get to the bottom of this.  Miss you lots, love, Kasie

Hi....Sorry you are having pain...I too have pain on my left side even though I have had a full hysterectomy last May...it is almost the same pain I have had before the surgery so my doctor thinks it could be adhesions also.,..have not tried the ball rolling but when it bothers me greatly I use the moist heating pad and it provides some relief. I also have my husband deep massage it and it feels so good...My doctor says there really is not anything they could do for it..I will try the ball if it flairs up again..Hope all is well and please feel good..keep me posted..Love, Gia :)

Ok I am so glad I found this forum because your story sounds exactly like mine.  I had my right ovary removed three months ago because I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit that had twisted and killed the ovary.  I was feeling great after surgery and was back to my normal exercise and everything.  Then about two weeks I started having horrible pains like you described and it would wake me up as well.  I called my doctor as well making sure it was the right ovary they removed I told him it felt like I had another cyst there and he said that was inpossible. So he did a cat scan today and now I am just waiting for results... it's so frustrating I just want to be better and hopefully have kids one day.  I am also going to try this body rolling and see how it works.
