Attn ladies danger in cooking

I just wanted to remind everyone of something I know we have heard before. I have heard of it, but now I actually know a lady that has passed away from food preperation. She cut her finger while preparing raw chicken to cook. E coli got in thru the cut, by the time the hospital figured out what was wrong E coli had spread beyond control. Her husband said it was a painful end to her life. My she rest in peace,    Donna

I think it's important to wash all fruit and veggies before cooking/eating. Many people from here go to Bali ( an Indonesian holiday island) for vacation. It's well known that you don't eat salad, drink local water, and to use bottled water to clean teeth.
That's terrible re that lady getting E-Coli from chicken. We need to take special care, with  our immune systems being down. Hope everyone is feeling well today...hugs..Helen..

I am still trying to figure it out. She was a friend of a friend, I had met her a couple of times. When the mutual friend told me what she passed from, I was shocked. the lady didn't know what was wrong and went to a small hospital in a little town near me. They couldn't figure it out, and lost time before transferring her to Jackson. (next larger town) By the time all this took place it was spread in her system. I googled e coli last night, and there were reports of it on spinach and some other vegetables. My clinic told me on my first diagnosis not to eat raw salads and when I told them I had bought a Jack Lalane juicer that they would rather me not do that while on chemo and counts down. We don't have an organic market, I have bought some juices and other foods in Memphis when I go for chemo.They also told me no visiting in hospitals and nursing homes, which has been hard since my MIL had a stroke New Years day. I only saw her once at the nursing home, but I knew my counts were up and had hand sanitizer.She will get to go home soon after therapy ends.She was so good to me and stayed in Memphis with me in the hospital both times.(She was a retired RN and good to have, she kept the nurses on their toes, made me sit up and eat and walk when I didn't want to)

I have a heart buddy that ended up with salmonella (also found in chicken and had some trouble with alfalfa sprouts). It went systemic in her and she's not sure yet if it's all cleared up even yet. Do be careful handling meat products.

Excellent reminder, for all of us. We all seem to know of the dangers of raw meats, but especially, at this time of year (we're all starting to grill a lot, again) it's a good reminder. I have to honestly say, I've never really thought of the E coli getting in our bodies via a cut on a finger. I, for one, will be extra careful and thoroughly wash with anti-bacterial soap (paying extra attention to cuts) after handling raw meats!

I'm very sorry about the lady you knew. What a sad and tragic thing to have happened! May she rest in peace and be pain-free, as I'm sure she is.
