Anyone have to have a port removed because it was coming through the skin?

Thanks Jane for the support. I have lots of friends with breast cancer but none with Ovarian. so this forum is great. Most of my friends only had ports in for chemo then they were removed. No one I know has a port that sticks out as much as this one does. Even the Doctors wince when they see it.

In general I am doing great with the ovarian I feel very happy about that.

Good, I hope this one works better for you!!  The first one I had in only served it's time during chemo and I had it taken out, it drove me nuts.  The second one was put in on the opposite side and it really doesn't bother me as much.  It's been in for what about 28 months.  They really want me to keep it in indefinetly I guess as long as it doesn't cause problems.  I hear some people keep it for years and years *ugg*.
Hope the new one is less painful and worrisome for you.

They are taking the port out and putting a thinner in on the other side deeper in the tissue. Yeah!

I see the surgeon again today. Thanks. How long have you had your port. I have had it a year and hate it. It was okay at first. In the last six weeks it hurts all the time. I sometimes fantasize tearing it out with a knife. I know I can't.

I would definetly keep an eye on it.  I can press on mine and see the edges on it.  I have heard of things going wrong.  I had one time when I had it flushed, that the nurse who did it, poked it and I immediately knew she didn't hit it, and ever since then, it hasn't felt right or looked right and the regular nurse made a comment that the surgeon who put it, doesn't "stitch" them in like other surgeons do, that's why that nurse didn't hit it (no she just didn't know how to do it, as many times as that things been poked-no one else ever missed it LOL), any way the regular nurse did the flush and said well lets get this right as I don't want to give you a heart attack, needless to say, my jaw went to the ground.  I guess what I am trying to say, things do go wrong.  Regardless if you are thin, if something seems wrong, get it checked out :)

No I am just really thin and losing more weight. The surgeon says its fine. It hurts pressing on the skin. You can even see the sides of the port under the skin. They are taping the skin to give it some relief.  I guess that is all I can do.

I personally have never had this problem.  I've had two ports, and have one still in now, in my upper right chest.  But I've heard people who have had considerable problems with them.  Do you have very thin and tender skin?
